Nikky and I both worked in the nonprofit sector. Because of that background, everything we do now with our business, we try to make meaningful. We want to create together with people and make sure that as a team, everyone benefits.
We are very aware of the opportunities we have and the choice we made to start our own company. That’s also why we want to share, give back, and create a lasting impact. Therefore, we only work with local and small businesses and by supporting social projects in Bali.
We don’t work with discounts; instead, we use that value for social projects that we set up here in Bali. These are small projects for families who can really use the support.
Small projects, big impacts
One example of a project, which for now we funded ourselves, was renovating a house. I met Made three years ago on the beach when she was selling bracelets. We started talking and, just like with many people here, we built a connection. This year, I met her family; her two brothers live together with their partners, and in total there are six young children.
Every time I go to the tailor, I drive past their house and I always stop to bring something small for the kids. Over time, I noticed the children had many small wounds from bedbugs. The house was in very bad condition, with a lot of mold in the rooms and broken cabinets. The money they earn mostly goes to basic needs to take care of the children, so there was nothing left to improve the house.
So we decided to do something and renovated the house, so the children can grow up in a safe and healthy place.
Unfortunately, there are so many people who need help, and it’s impossible to help everyone. That’s why we focus on helping the people around us and improving our direct surroundings. Small projects like this, but with a very big impact, are the projects we want to continue doing.
